Green River - Split Mountain to Sand Wash. Bryan Burke's Trip Report - Page 2

After saying goodbye to our Yampa group at the Split Mountain campground, Doug and I pushed off and floated past the same ramp where I'd taken out two years ago after an epic 309 mile float from the headwater lakes. The next few miles, before we hit the flatter waters between Vernal and Ouray, my GPS showed top speeds of 10 miles per hour, and seven or eight was common! Once down in the flats, the speed dropped to six or seven, but was still very impressive. The scenery was somewhat like the upper Green River above the town of Green River, Wyoming, where canyon walls are replaced by huge vistas that go out to snow capped peaks fifty or more miles away.
